Women in Maritime Association, Korea (WIMA Korea) is a national chapter of the Women in Maritime Association, Asia (WIMA Asia) – one of eight Women in Maritime Associations under the auspices of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). All women who work or study in the maritime sector in Korea are eligible to join WIWA Korea.

Women in Maritime Association, Korea (WIMA Korea) was officially established on the 30th May 2023 as the national chapter of the Women in Maritime Association, Asia (WIMA Asia), one of the eight Women in Maritime Associations supported by IMO – a global network for women in the maritime industry. WIMA Korea serves as a community for women maritime professionals to foster information exchange, strengthen motivation, and shape a shared vision to enhance their capabilities and career development.
WIMA Korea believes that continuous growth and active participation of women in the maritime industry as valuable talent will bring tremendous advantages to our society. Through various cooperative activities, WIMA Korea aims to empower and support women to overcome institutional and cultural barriers, promote their professional achievement, enhance social advancement, and close the gender gap.
WIMA Korea Mission
The mission of WIMA Korea isto establish a robust network for women in the maritime area, encourage professional development, improve competencies and proficiencies, protect women’s rights and welfare, enhance the social status of women, and contribute to the development of the maritime industry in Korea.
WIMA Korea Membership
All Koreanwomen who have worked or are working in the maritime field are eligible to become regular members of WIMAKorea. Students enrolled in maritime training institutions or maritime-related majors can join as student members.Individuals, organizations, or companies who wish to contribute to the advancement of WIMA Korea can join as special members.

What does WIMA Korea do?
The activity areas of WIMA Korea encompass capacity building, policy research, network provision, and global cooperation.
