Fostering Imagination and Learning: WIMA Champion Literacy Through Community Engagement

The Mariners’ Polytechnic Colleges Foundation of Legazpi City, Inc. (MPCF-LC) extended its advocacy for literacy and community engagement through an outreach storytelling program held on September 19, 2025. The event was made possible through the joint initiative of the Office of Research, Extension, and Services (ORES), the Research Organization of Women Empowerment in Research and Services (ROWERS), and the Women in Maritime/Seafarers Training and Support (WIMA/STS).

The storytelling session welcomed the bright young learners of Rawis Elementary School, transforming the venue into a space filled with laughter, curiosity, and creativity. The program opened with a message from Mr. Hershee B. Parreno, Officer-in-Charge of the Student Affairs and Services (SAS), who emphasized the role of imagination in shaping young minds and building confidence through shared stories. “Storytelling is more than just entertainment—it’s a bridge to learning and dreaming,” Mr. Parreno said. “When children listen, imagine, and create, they begin charting their own paths toward discovery.”

The highlight of the day was the storytelling performance by 3/M Marvin Azuela and Midn. Jayne Olayres, introduced by Midn. Suzanne B. Trinidad, RSVO President. The program also featured interactive games and a talent showcase, where students eagerly displayed their singing and dancing skills. These moments celebrated creativity and camaraderie, embodying the spirit of learning beyond the classroom.

Through this initiative under MANA-MO 2025, the Mariners’ community once again reaffirmed its dedication to education, service, and creativity to inspire and guide the next generation.
